SWISS ALPHS - Three killed by third helicopter crash in Swiss Alps in a short time.

A helicopter crashed in the Valais Alps in Switzerland Tuesday morning. It killed three people and injured three.

The helicopter was taking a mountain guide and four clients to a spot high in the mountains, but crashed near the landing site. The aircraft then slid down the slope, police reported. The cause of the accident is not yet known.

Seven helicopters were called in for the rescue operation. Two of the injured received medical care at the scene before being flown to the hospital. A third person was also rescued. Three other occupants were killed.

The Swiss Safety Investigation Board has launched an investigation to determine the cause of the accident, Swiss newspaper Blick reported. A criminal investigation has also been launched.

The helicopter belonged to Air-Glaciers. "We are deeply saddened and indescribably affected by this event. Our thoughts are with the families and loved ones of the victims," the airline wrote in a statement.

Third helicopter crash in region since mid-February

The Valais Alps are located in the canton of Valais, in southwestern Switzerland. The region borders Italy and France to the south.

According to Swiss media, Tuesday's helicopter crash is already the third helicopter accident in Valais since mid-February.
