The US Air Force on Tuesday (April 30) awarded Boeing a $178 million contract to produce an additional seven MH-139A helicopters and provide maintenance and training support. The new order brings the total number of MH-139As under contract to 26.

The contract comes as the first production helicopter made its maiden flight in December 2023. With that aircraft currently undergoing additional testing and other helicopters in various stages of production, Boeing says it is on track to deliver the first production helicopter to the Air Force .

The MH-139A's will replace the UH-1N Huey and are tasked with protecting intercontinental ballistic missiles in the US and transporting VIP and security personnel.
